I have the privilege to be one of this years Pounders Roundup beach cleanup and bodyboard meet’s sponsors at Laie beachpark (AKA POUNDERS) on the island of O`ahu. If you’ve spent any time following my posts on my artist page on facebook or followed my flickr page you know how dear this place is to me. I grew up here and I feel I really came into my own as a photographer and artist at this magical place. No this place doesn’t have the best clean barrels or waves everyday largely due to the fact that this place usually starts “going off” when the tide is high and the winds are strong. But there is something special to those who spent a large portion of their childhood and teenage years here. To me its my favorite place to go to the beach. Rain or shine. My friends call it “The Playground.”
I am helping out with some design and ideas for this years videos and promo materials. I put together that flyer and the photo is one that I took a few years back that has become one of my all time favorite shots of the wedge there. I am also going to be filming the beach cleanup as well as the competition. I am so stoked to be part of this project and hope that it will continue year after year. It takes a lot of work to organize things like this as I’m sure not too many people know. Evan Fa from surgebodyboarding.com is the organizer of the event and I’m sure he has had more than his fair share of sleepless nights along with the Kahuku Bodyboarders. Mahalo for all the hard work and giving me a chance to share my talent.
The Beach Cleanup and Event start this week! Come out and support the community!
Here is a promo video that I put together for this years event. Aloha.
Please watch it in HD if you can!
